When we have to add one given number to another, this is indicated by the sign +, which is placed before the second number, and is read plus.

当我们要把一个给定的数加到另一个数上时，就用符号 + 表示；它放在第二个数前面，读作 plus，也就是“加”。

Thus 5 + 3 signifies that we must add 3 to the number 5, in which case, every one knows that the result is 8.

所以，5 + 3 表示必须把 3 加到 5 上；这时人人都知道结果是 8。

In the same manner 12 + 7 make 19; 25 + 16 make 41; the sum of 25 + 41 is 66, &c.

同样，12 + 7 得 19；25 + 16 得 41；25 + 41 的和是 66，等等。
